A universal coupling, also known as a U-joint or Cardan joint, is a critical mechanical component that transmits torque and rotary motion between two shafts with angular misalignment. It consists of two yokes and a cross-shaped spider, enabling multi‑directional pivoting to compensate for shaft angle deviations—supporting angles up to 45° with compact structure and high efficiency.
Widely used in automotive, construction machinery, and metallurgical equipment, it overcomes transmission issues caused by installation errors, vibration, and displacement. A single universal joint may cause speed fluctuation, so double joints are often applied in high‑speed scenarios to achieve constant‑velocity transmission. Built with precision bearings and sealed designs, high‑quality universal couplings resist wear and contamination, ensuring reliable power delivery in demanding industrial environments.
